it would completely depend on the dress. Most will charge you for the dress not an hourly rate. Obviously a simple tea length, sheath dress is going to be much cheaper than an extremely elegant, with lots of bead work and crinoline. Indian gowns are especially expensive due to the elaborate hand sewn material.

They will have to charge you for all the material and the quality of the material. Some silks are way more expensive than cotton. Plus if you want crystals, beads, sequins. Most importantly are you getting a seamstress to custom design it or Vera Wang. The name is probably the MOST expensive element in a custom designed dress.
