Petite Wedding Dresses
What styles and fabrics are the least troublesome to alter?
I'm very petite (size 2 petite in normal clothes), and I know that any wedding dress I buy will have to be shortened quite a bit in the hem and in the shoulder straps. A dress with a train will obviously be very difficult to alter, but I don't want a train anyway.
I just want to know which styles and fabrics are relatively easy to alter and which are not.
By the way, I haven't seen any petite-sized weddding dresses. Does anyone know if they exist? 
Most of the small sizes seem to be made for really skinny tall people and not normally-proportioned small people. (grouse, grouse, grouse!)

Yes, this is a wedding question. It's about a wedding dress. Perhaps there are other short brides who have ideas- read the whole thing!!
I dont think you should have that big of a problem. I recommend that your first priority should be to shop for a dress that you love and THEN consider alteration issues. If you rule out certain styles right away, you may limit yourself too much. Most dresses can be altered, its just that the more complicated the process, the more expensive it will be. I used to work in a bridal store and i was always amazed by what the seamtress' could pull off.
To answer your question, a dress that has a decorative hem (like a lace border) will have to be altered at the waist if there is a seam there, but if not, then the trim will have to be removed and resewn. But that would be rare, most dresses are designed with alterations in mind.
I know that some brands allow the dresses to be ordered in "long" length, which is usually and extra 6 inches. But i dont know of any that are manufactured in a shorter length.
Oh, and dresses with trains are no different when it comes to alterations, they only take up the dress in the front and on the sides.
Honestly, i dont think you should worry too much.
